This morning I was hit with a major load of motivation, which is awesome considering it's the Saturday before finals. I decided to be a little different today, and head to campus to get a lot of work done. I got my scrub pants on (a studying necessity as a pharmacy student), threw in a headband to keep my hair from falling in my face, and off I went. I got to campus around 10am, and when I sat down in the library I felt like I was the only one around. I felt a little surprised, but I guess most other people on campus didn't get the jolt of motivation like I did this morning.
I worked solidly from 10 all the way until 2pm, when I decided that maybe I should get something to eat. I left the library, headed outside, and discovered that it was even warmer than when I left my apartment this morning. People are out everywhere...studying at tables in front of the Holcomb Building, on benches, and all over the mall. It made me wish that I had the ability to see my computer screen outside and not get creeped out when an insect decides to crawl on me so that I could sit down on the mall and study while enjoying the glorious weather, but alas, it's just not meant to be. I headed in the direction of Atherton Union to get some food at C-Club. Apparently most people had already eaten or weren't going to C-Club today, because there was no one there. That's pretty unusual, because when I go to C-Club to eat lunch during the week, it's always packed with people eating or studying between classes. I decided to take my chicken sandwich and smoothie outside, and I sat down at a table outside of Starbucks to eat.
I really enjoyed taking a break from my work, resting my mind, and watching the events around me. Phi Psi, one of the fraternities, is having one of their big events today, and they had music blaring so that I could hear it all the way over in Starbucks (for the record, I couldn't even see their house, that's how far away I was). When I lived in Schwitzer freshman year, my room was right across from their house, and I got used to always hearing their music, or hearing the boys while they were playing beach volleyball in front of their house.
While I ate, I saw a group of a few guys playing campus golf. I was completely unaware of the existence of campus golf before I came to Butler, and was only introduced to it after a tennis ball nearly hit me in the head as I was walking around campus one sunny day. I've yet to play a game, so I'm not an expert on all the rules, but as far as I can tell it's pretty simple. There are two pieces of equipment: a golf club and a tennis ball. People go around, and pick a target that acts as the "hole." Once you hit that target, you're done the hole. Of course, you try to hit the target in as few strokes as possible. Unfortunately, most of the people that decide to play campus golf can barely swing a club, and many seem to have difficulty getting the ball in the air. Those who can get the ball in the air often have difficulty getting it to go in the desired direction, which is what makes the game slightly hazardous for spectators or innocent pedestrians. As I watched this particular game of campus golf, one player ended up hitting a car. I learned a new lesson today: never park your car near grass when the weather's nice.
I'm back in the Science Library now, and I'm planning on being equally productive for the next two and a half hours as I was this morning. Wish me luck!
Until later,
Ashlen
