EUROPA 2008
MAJOR LIFE ANNOUNCEMENT! GET EXCITED!
Friday, I had a meeting with my study abroad group to talk about our exciting trip... are you ready for this??
because on September 1st, 2008, yours truly will be on a plane to....
...(is the suspense killing you yet?)....
.,.... ESPANA!
That is Spain, for those of you lacking the gift of the Spanish tongue ; )
I will be attending fall semester at the University of Alcala de Henares, which is basically just outside Madrid, aka one of the most fabulous and exciting cities in all of Europe. I am going with a group of students and one professor from Butler. We'll have one class together, but we're living in homes with Spanish families. Two of my friends went through this program last year and loved it, so I am really excited. It's pretty cool that there are other Butler people going because we can all plan for it together.
On Friday we learned all about what to expect for orientation and we also picked our classes. As of right now, I am signed up for 19th Century Spanish Short Stories (that's the class we all take with our Butler prof), Contemporary Spanish Women Writers, Spanish Civilization & Culture and Spanish Films. I am thinking about maybe switching Films to Art, since there will be so many art museums in Spain. PS. Did I mention these classes are entirely in Spanish?? Oh man. It will be tough, but so exciting. I CAN'T WAIT! : )
Oh, and side note: I plan to travel EVERYWHERE in Europe while I'm there. I will have Butler friends in some other countries that I can visit, and if I want to go places where I don't know anybody I'll youth-hostel it up. Sweeeeeet life.
If Brad lets me keep my blog up then I will definitely try to fill you guys in on all the fun times there - and of course the fantastic pictures.
In other news, here's a recap of my weekend/Monday:
1) Symphony concert downtown on Friday with my Honors Class = fun times.
2) My friend Bryan was back at Butler for a visit last weekend. He graduated last year and now goes to grad school in chemistry at UNC Chapel Hill and last year he was the International Scholar for his fraternity, Sigma Nu... Butler students are smart cookies, clearly!
3) I got to see one of my best friends this weekend! He lives in Texas so I never see him, but he was in Dayton for Winterguard International World Championships. My friend Caitlin who lived in my unit in Schwitzer last year was also a World Finalist and won a silver medal! Props to her for balancing being a world class athlete/performer AND a Butler education.
4) Don't write 10 page papers the night before they are due. Yeah... good thing I'm an English major and I can crank papers out like it's my job.
5) Swing Into Spring week is now! (Pi Phi's philanthropy this semester) We're having a 72 hour swingathon to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Who doesn't love a swingset? Too bad it's not actually spring this week. Brrrrrr.
6) Blogger Chat #2 last night was way fun. Shoutout to all our new friends! Oh, and Seitu - stop scaring the kids away!
