yes, it's about 6 am. insomnia is such a lovely thing. i think my brain is just in overdrive. i'm a new uncle as of last night. my brother-in-law has another baby girl-congrats to him down in texas. my co-worker beth was in labor yesterday, too-no word yet on her baby boy. i'm heading to disney world with my family in two short weeks, and have not prepared nearly as much as i should have by now. i've got cars in shops, my 2 year old boy is having a medical procedure done monday, easter, etc.....eesh.
i spent almost an hour last night at home on the phone with an incoming student and her father. it's certainly not something i would do everyday--i have to have a break from work sometime! but this is a family that i have developed a pretty good relationship with over the past 7-8 months, and they needed some questions answered and didn't have a lot of 8-5 time to do so. and they had a lot of good questions, which makes all the difference in the world. it never felt like a burden or anything, and at the end, all i could think about was what i would hope for in about 14 years when i start sending my kids to college. it's a big decision, one to be taken seriously but with fun too.
we have two events on campus today. first we have an early registration, so we get to receive another bunch of new bulldogs. another group of nervous and excited students....and nervous and excited parents!! after that we have a junior preview day, a chance for juniors to get on campus and learn about butler. andy and i are hosting the game show portion, which ought to be interesting. it is pouring down rain this morning. i guess that the law of averages says this is bound to happen once in a while, so i am planning on a good soaking.
congrats to butler on being ranked 4th again in this years us news for midwest masters universities!
