ADMITTED SENIORS-this is for you!

So I thought now would be a good time to address our admitted seniors. First-CONGRATS! I'm SO excited you all are thinking about coming to Butler. I know I work here, but as an alum of this institution, I would tell you (off the record of course!) that the four years I spent as a student here were the best I've had. No joke. I received a great education, made wonderful friends and had so many different and fantastic opportunities presented to me in just four years. It was a great experience for me, and I'm just glad (and I feel so lucky!) that I am able to share that with students now. So congrats on being admitted!

You might be a little unsure as to what to do now. I'd like to offer some advice, and please-if you have questions, let me know! That's what I'm here for!

First, if you haven't been to campus-come visit! Our visit website is: http://go.butler.edu/experiencebutler/?pg=1658. This has every and all types of campus visit opportunities listed. As an admitted student, you can meet one on one with your admission counselor, take a tour of campus, meet with a professor AND/OR sit in on a class! If you've already been to visit, our True Blue program might be a better fit. We offer the chance for you as an admitted student to shadow a current freshman (with similar interests or major) and go to class, lunch and anything else that student has that day. It's a great way to see what being a student here is really like. :)

Second, if you and your parents haven't filled out the FAFSA, you still have time! We don't ask for the FAFSA back until March 1st, so hopefully you can send that off in the next week or so. It's not a deadline, but anyone that has the FAFSA turned in by 3/1 will have their financial aid package by the middle of March. We want to give you as much time as possible to weigh your options, so please get it in to us! It's free and if you fill it out online, I believe you can send it to as many schools as necessary! Good luck!

Third, if you haven't put down a deposit yet, you still have time as well! The National Candidate Reply Date is May 1st, and our deposit is refundable until then. The reason we ask for this deposit, you wonder? The $300 dollar deposit will hold your place in the incoming freshman class (GO DAWGS!) and hold your spot in a residence hall. Like I said, you have until May 1st to make your final decision. However, if you are DEFINITELY coming to Butler in the fall (Congrats!! We are SO excited to have you!!!) please put down your deposit and turn in your enrollment form. This will ensure you get a spot at one of our Early Registration dates. Those days run from March until June, and provide another opportunity to come to campus. This time though, you'll be picking out classes, meeting your advisor and getting your I.D. Exciting stuff!! For those of you shaking your and wondering what the Enrollment Form is-it's a one page sheet we provided in your admit packet. Check your folder, as it will ask you to verify a bunch of information AND to choose a registration date. VERY important. If this sheet is lost/misplaced. No big deal! We can print another one, just call the office. 317-940-8100. :)

Also-we've gotten some questions about housing information. It's actually all based on turning in your enrollment form and deposit. By submitting both of those pieces, you'll be sent over (your contact info!!) to the Office of Residence Life, who will then send you the preference form, contract and information about meal plans. I hope this clears up some confusion!

Finally, please keep cheering on our bulldogs as we head into the last part of basketball season! We unfortunately lost again last night, so we can definitely use your fan support!!! So get out your Butler gear and hopefully watch the dawgs have a successful end to their season!!

I can't believe it's February...weren't we just on break?!

My life has been so crazy as of late....I'd be surprised if anyone actually read this thing anymore!!!

January FLEW by. I think that's all I can say, because it truly was a blur of reading files and making decisions, attending events for admitted students and meeting with families who have been admitted. Time has completely gotten away from me, so hopefully February slows down...at least a little. ;)

We had another admission deadline, this time on January 15th. Those admission decisions were mailed last Friday, so if you haven't heard yet, you should soon. Good luck to all those who applied EA2. I'm sure you all are thinking time is flying as well...as we are already getting into thoughts of prom, graduation and the like. It's been fun to be so busy, and to see SO many students excited about attending Butler. We hosted events for admitted students where they could come to campus for basketball games and tailgating, and we had AWESOME turnout. It's always fun for us admission counselors to get to meet students we haven't yet, or parents, families and siblings who might not have made the trip to Indy before. All three games we hosted events for, we won. I loved it! I was so glad that the students and families who got to go were treated to great games. I can only hope the basketball team keeps up their good work! They just announced a bracketbuster against Davidson towards the end of the month, so if you can, tune in to cheer the dawgs on!! The other couple of events we hosted were in Chicago, similar to the event we did in St. Louis. Both had great turnouts, and I love visiting with my students, even IF the weather is cold and miserable and snowy! I hope the students that attended these events had a good time, and got their questions answered. If you didn't, please let me know. :)

The other set of events we hosted (told you, we've been BUSY!) were for admitted Pharmacy students. They had the opportunity to come to campus, meet current faculty, staff and students AND get a better understanding of how our program works. I think they went really well, as we are hosting another towards the end of this month.

Life for me has been quiet, except for getting sick and trying to nurse this cold away. I was VERY sad, as I missed Brad's going away lunch. For those of you who don't know, Brad Ward, our AMAZING technology/communications/blog boss/amazing guy all-around, left Butler at the end of January to pursue other career options. I know that I will miss him a lot-he was a great co-worker and someone I could always go to for a good book to read, or the latest info about a number of social media outlets. He is SUCH a strong presence within our profession, especially in regards to social networking/media/communications/marketing. He will DEFINTELY be missed in our office. Brad, if you read this-I'm so sad I missed your lunch on Monday. I FULLY expect to see you soon. Make it happen, ok?! ;) I know you all will miss him on this site too...so now just come to me, a VERY distant second, if you need anything. :)

why is life so boring in january?!

To be honest, I don't really have a lot to talk about. Life has been pretty uneventful as of late, and while I welcome the change, it also can be boring! I'm hoping this weekend brings a little more excitement back into my life!

There's a movie that's coming out I am really excited to see-27 Dresses. Yes, I know TOTAL girl movie and definitely a chick flick, but I'm a really big fan of Katherine Heigl and James Mardsen so I'm hoping we can go see it this weekend when it comes out! I am definitely one of those people who always think about going to see movies I like, and NEVER end up seeing them. It sucks, because then I forget about them entirely after they leave the theatre. My new goal is to watch some movies that I haven't seen during spring travel when I'm up in Chicago. Spring travel is wayyyyy less stressful, as compared to a really full schedule during the fall. I love travel, and especially love the time I get to spend in Chicago in the spring. It starts the process over with Juniors, and it's a lot of fun to meet the students I'll be working with so early on in their college search process. I don't start though, until March, so I'll keep you posted as to how that goes and where I'm headed!

I had to dogsit this week for a friend....she has a yorkshire terrier that's about a year old, and let me tell you, it really made me NOT want any pets. I go back and forth, thinking I'd like a dog. I think, after this whole thing, I'm giving up the idea permanently. No offense, but I really don't think pets are my thing...as witnessed by my week of dogsitting....

I would, however, like to point out that (speaking of dogs) bulldogs broke the top ten most popular dogs list this year, which is apparently compiled by the American Kennel Club. (seriously! who would have thought they make lists like this?!!) Our mascot, Blue 2, actually blogged about it, and you can see what he said here:

Other than that, life is pretty quiet here. Colin Powell is coming to speak in about a month which is REALLY exciting for campus. Even now, as a staff member, it still amazes me, the opportunities afforded to the students, faculty and staff here. I'm excited at the idea of it!!

Finally, to end, our basketball team is doing SO WELL THIS YEAR! Props to them, to Coach Stevens and all the other coaches. It's been a great season so far!
