Now I'm known to be one to see things so I didn't think anything of it at first, but then I saw it again and this time there were two of them! "No, calm down Melody" I told myself while walking into the building. I took my seat and didn't think anything of what I "may have" or "might not have seen."

I get my usual strawberry frap with white mocha in it and find a table to work at. Well, I get my laptop turned on and then I just happen to look up at the right moment out the window facing the mall, and a huge heard of at least 100 people like figures run by in all black. Now no one else around me seemed to notice. They were all studying and chatting like nothing happened. I calmly look down at my frap that I was about to start drinking and set it on the table. I return once more to the counter and ordered a large water with extra ice. "Strange things happen when you're dehydrated." I thought out loud. The journalist in me couldn't except dehydration as the culprit behind such strange sights, so I do what any journalist would do. I investigated.

I went outside looking for the two unusual red lights I saw hovering over the star fountain on my way in. This time I got a closer look. Those two red lights were neon necklaces on two girls dressed in the same all black outfit of the heard I just saw before. I was relieved to see that I wasn't seeing hallucinations and asked what was going on. They said it was a CSI scavenger hunt for homecoming week.

The world was making sense again. I had forgotten that this is homecoming week and crazy events like this are going on till Saturday. I smiled and left them to give another clue to the next group of scavengers. After I finished my paper (and the rest of my frap.) on my way out a cluster of Sigma Chi's ran by me on their way to the next clue. I chuckled to myself and just thought my traditional thought when moments like this happen (and yes they do happen often to me) "Oh Butler." I'll let you know how the week goes. If you're in the area you should come to the football game against San Diego University. It'll be in the Butler Bowl at 1:00p.m. Saturday!

Go Dawgs!! Bark Bark!!

Melody

In Memoriam....

This time two
years ago I never imaged what would happen. It was on this day at 10a.m. I left
my home not realizing that it would be a month before I would get to walk
through it's doors again.

It doesn't feel like it happened to me two
years ago. I still remember it like yesterday. Katrina destroyed New Orleans
August 19, 2005. When the waters finally drained, it was as if the soul of the
city went with them. Since then I've never felt at home in the only city I had
ever known.

As I'm sitting here in my room at Butler I think about one of
the alumni on the volleyball team. She was sitting in another room in Resco
(maybe even the same one as me), and called me a few days after Katrina to ask
me what address she can mail some cloths she wanted to give me. It was that
phone call that I knew I picked a school with heart. Her kindness let me know
that Butler must be a really special place to have someone as kind as her to
help me out.

She had never met me, she wasn't even going to be playing
with me next fall, but she knew I was part of the Butler family. Even though I
wasn't in class with her, she still saw me as a bulldog in need.

That's
one of the things I love about this campus. The spirit of kindness and
generosity is everywhere. There is always someone who is willing to help someone
else with anything. My professors are always understanding of my traveling
schedule with volleyball, my friends and I study together for our exams, and the
girl at Starbucks always puts a little extra whipped cream on my latte just
because she knows it will make me smile.

The sense of community I get here has really helped me get
through this day....

I'll never forget that little piece of me that was
lost two years ago, but at the same time I'm so grateful for what I've
found.
