It's nice because you have the option of getting as involved as you want, but you're not made to do anything! I would definitely recommend joining in on some of the festivities though... it's a blast!

If you decide to pledge a certain sorority during formal recruitment then decide you don't like the house, you can de-pledge. Almost every girl ends up loving the house she ends up in though, so this hardly ever happens... but if you are worried about not liking greek life, you should know that this is always a option.

That being said, greek life at Butler is truly different than it is at other schools. Every house, sorority and fraternity, is supportive of one another. I would definitely encourage looking into recruitment and keeping an open mind about going greek! I know I'm so glad that I did!

It seems like that is NEVER the case, for me at least haha. I will say, joining a sorority has definitely filled up my schedule with all sorts of fun events... I think I've had only one weekend this year where there wasn't something planned. But even as a freshman I felt like there was always something going on for me to do! For instance - every weekend they show a movie in Jordan, there are planned events such as All Hall Fall Ball, Trick-or-Treating for kids, not to mention everything that goes along with homecoming week. You can always go off campus to Broadripple or downtown too if you want, which brings options like the mall, zoo, museums, restaurants... the list goes on and on!

But if you are willing to put in the time and effort, you will do well. College is all about balancing work with fun... and there are always plenty of opportunities (more like obligations work-wise haha) for both! So don't stress... but if you do end up coming to BU be ready to study hard while also having the time of your life! :)

Jess - Butler IS beautiful, especially at this time of year when all of the leaves are changing! I remember my first campus visit... I came in the fall as well and I absolutely fell in love. Hope you enjoy seeing everything around campus as much as I did!

It's nice every once in a while, for special events or the mall, but I think most Butler students choose to go to Broadripple for small meals, shopping, and such. Luckily, both are close enough (Downtown about 10 minutes, Broadripple about 5) and easily accessible! I usually stay on campus on the weekends, there is always something going on, but if you want to get out you definitely have the option!

And no, it's not usually this stressful, I'm just in a rush to get my study done before the conference deadline!

Also - the whole "running your own study" thing isn't mandatory... I joined a Professor's research lab to get the experience and to prepare myself for graduate school! And although this is all very stressful and crazy... I do actually enjoy it, which makes all the difference!

As for the psych department in general, I've yet to meet a professor that I haven't liked. They are not only experienced and knowledgeable, but very personable and down-to-earth.

To address the choir question, I have to admit I don't know much about it. Beside the actual classes, there are a few a cappella groups on campus though - one of my sisters just joined the all-female group, "Freshly Brewed" - they are awesome!

As far as financial aid, I know most people on campus receive aid in one way or another, but it differs on a personal basis... you might want to direct a question like that to the admissions office, though! I'm sure they'd me more helpful than me!

One more thing... I definitely, DEFINITELY have time to do stuff other than school work. Have you had the chance to look at my blog? haha :)
