I am a junior in hs right now and I am trying to figure out when I will start applying for the fall of '09.  Is early to middle of this summer to early???  If I do apply then, about when do you think I will know if I am accepted or not??  Also, what kind of scholarships and financial aid are available?  I know it will be a stretch for my family to afford Butler, but I know if I can get some scholarships I will be ok.

Hi, I'm a senior in high school who will be going to butler next year, so I'll tell you what I did.... I hope it helps. I started my application in the fall of 2007 but didn't officially send it in until the end of november. Butler has a really easy system of applying online, so you can start on that whenever you want. I'm sure applying in the summer would be fine, just make sure you have all the stuff you need from your school before break. The latest you can apply for full consideration is December 1. Whether you apply in the summer or on December 1, you will know if you're accepted by around December 20 (correct me if I'm wrong bloggers). There is a lot of financial aid available and you don't really need to do much to be eligible. You will hear first about the Freshman Academic Scholarship, which is generally the biggest chunk. Later you may get additional awards, including an interview day for departmental scholarships. It's a stretch for my family too. I'll tell you what I got and I hope it's ok to post on here: Freshman Academic Scholarship: $12,500 a year Heritage Award: $2000 a year Departmental Scholarship: $4000 a year Total paid for (Aid Only): $18,500 a year Total paid for (Aid and Loans): $22,700 a year Make sure you fill out your FAFSA, but since you're already this prepared to apply, I bet you knew about that too. haha. I hope this helped and just post here if you have anymore questions. I answered as well as I could but you will be able to find most of this information at http://go.butler.edu/ . Also, welcome to the Forums!

Wow! Those are some nice scholarships! Another thing that will make Butler one of my top choices.

Wow, thank you so much!  It really helps to see an actual amount that is available....I know if I can get some good scholarships and financial aid, I will be fine, but my parents are getting really reluctant to let me go if I get accepted because it is so expensive....thank you again so much!!!

no problem! and remember, even if you apply by december 1, the earliest date, and you do get in, you're not required to attend. it's non-binding, so even if you think it will be too much money, you should apply and see how much you can get. it definitely won't hurt you any. i'm glad i could help.

Thanks for your answers, Matt!

Just so everyone knows, starting next fall the early application deadline will be NOVEMBER 15TH, NOT December 1. We'll be announcing that soon.  Also, the online application won't be available until around August 1, so you have plenty of time.

So are we definitely not allowed to start applying until around August 1 when the online apps are available??

Wow! That's quite a large deadline bump up. I hope that people won't miss the deadline because they think it's December Tongue Tied

Well hopefully the people who are really serious and psyched about Butler will definitely notice the change....for those people who are seriously considering butler, they will probably know soon..I hope at least
