ok, i've heard people say that they've taken too much to college & then some say not enough. what are some of the essentials that should be taken to college but might slip a person's mind? i'm going to be asking questions on here as i think of them so i will probably be posting a lot on here. i just started purchasing a few college items today and it kind of got me in the school shopping mood. :) do most people take bathrobes? and would you recommend bringing a dry erase board for the door? am i correct in saying that extension cords are not allowed? and what is the best type of surge protector to buy? i'm thinking along the lines of a powersquid. ok, that's enough questions for now. ha ha my mind is just filled to the brim now that i have realized i'm leaving in a few months to establish a new home for the next 6 years of my life.
I'm going through the exact thing right now...I ordered a lot of my stuff on Amazon this week. What I found very useful was a Butler Bound Residence Life Newsletter that had a comprehensive list of what and what not to bring on the back...In case you did not get this list, I will post it since I ahve the time to now that it is summer:
Essential Stuff:
Little touches of home:
Not needed / Not allowed:
That is what was on the list, luckily there are convenient stores (meijer) near Butler that you can drive/bum a ride to if you forgot something or just need some food.
thanks! & wow, you do have a lot of time on your hands. no summer job or just not working at the moment with nothing on the to-do list?
i am working with a marching band on a pretty random schedule, so I decided not to get a job since most places would not be able to confrom to my crazy schedule
schweet. what instrument?
I think it's funny that (not allowed) isn't by alcohol and drugs, but it is by nearly everything else. Is it really like that on the sheet? haha!
Definatly make sure that you bring rainboots if your a girl or old shoes that you don't mind getting dirty if your a guy. Butler's campus has a little flooding problem when it rains and the sidewalks turn into streams. Also for the first part of the year I would make sure you get a good fan. Better yet get multiple because the dorms can get very hot (unless your in resco). And one thing you really don't need is a room phone. It's good to have one plugged in but don't go all out unless you plan on calling your parents locally. Anything outside the 317 area code costs money and you have to set up an account with IR. For the most part people never even know there room numbers they are just there in case a teacher needs to call you or if someone asks for you at the front desk. Everyone just uses there cell phone's.

I'm teaching the hornline overall, but I played mellophone in marching band, am majoring in French Horn, and I also play piano.
well you are a jack of all trades.
