    Orientation and Welcome Week 2008

    Hey Guys-

The Orientation program at Butler has a website with A LOT of great information on it. They give you a schedule of events, information for your parents and a way to contact them with questions. I've listed the link below, so please feel free to check it out, and as always, feel free to ask questions as needed. :)

    Thanks!!

I have a question. I am planning on doing AOC, and I know that I would move in early. How am I supposed to have my parents go to the required events listed in the Welcome Week program when they won't be there? Is it completely required?

    Hey Caitlin!

Good question...glad you're planning on doing AOC.  It's a great time and an awesome way to meet lots of new classmates (and you get to move in early!!!).

Speaking of - NO, it is not "required" for parents to attend the parent programming that is offered during Welcome Week.  Obviously you will have already been here a while and moved in - so your parents probably won't be around.  No worries there.  Not sure where you're from but if it's close enough they are certainly welcome and encouraged to come back on that Sunday before classes start (Aug 24th I think) but by no means is it mandatory for them.  The planned activities are pretty fun and informative.

Hope you're getting excited and starting to pack things up!!

Thanks! I'm from Iowa, so I don't think my parents will drive 8 hours just to hang out for a day. Smile

Makes perfect sense...especially with gas prices the way they are!!  :)  How are things in Iowa?  Hope everyone is starting to recover from the flooding!

Ames didn't get hit too hard. We had a day where one of the busier streets was closed. I actually had fun wading around. It was weird. There was so much water!! I'm just glad it was nothing like what happened in Iowa City or Des Moines or Cedar Falls. The other thing that sucks is the mosquitoes. They are sooooo bad this year. I play softball, and sometime I'm in the outfield, so I get eaten alive. Smile
