So I am looking at going to Butler and comparing it to another college and one thing I have for a positive aspect of Butler is Broadripple Village. I was wondering if a bus or some sort of transportation goes from campus to or through Broadripple. If I got a job in Broadripple while at Butler, but didn't have a car, would it be easy to get to and from work? Will I even have enough time for a job as a pharmacy student?
It is very easy to get to BroadRipple! Not only is there a late night shuttle on most weekends, but because of Butler's unit style freshman dorms you meet a lot of people quick! I always had a carpool of friends ready to go to Broadripple and I do not have a car on Butler's campus. I have never had a bad meal in Broadripple or been in one of its restraunts without other Butler students also eating there. However, if you are depending on public transportation to get you to Broadripple everyday, then you will be out of luck. (Other than a taxi) Although, If it is a job you are after then you may be interested in the over 900 positions of student employment on Butler's campus. These positions range from Butler tour guide to library clerk to box office ticket master. Because you are only competeing against other Butler students for these jobs you do not have to worry about a busy class schedule (Yes, you will have time for pharmacy and a job) hendering your ability to work. Just think, if your job is working at the front desk of your own Residence Hall (checking out DVDs/sorting mail) then your commute is about 1 minute.
I have talked to people who worked in Broad Ripple without a car... they said it is about a 15 minute bike ride from campus, so that is always an option if you don't mind doing that in the cold weather.
However, I would agree with Joe that the easiest thing to do as a student without a car is to work on campus and there are definitely many, many options.
I think you would have time for a job even if you are a pharmacy major. Especially as an underclassmen, you are going to mostly be taking core and intro classes which are the same for students of other majors. I know that many of my pharmacy friends have jobs or are very involved in campus activities. Don't overbook yourself first semester of college, but also don't be afraid to get involved. As long as you manage your time well, there is plenty of room for things other than studying!
Let me know if we can help with any other questions!

So I just was accepted & I'm kind of stressing about a job during school. Do you think working as an RA is the best opportunity on campus? My cousin works as in RA at her college & she loves it.
Don't stress out about jobs during school at all! There are a MILLION options for you to choose from, so you can definitely find one that fits your time schedule. Just to let you know, you can't become an RA until you're a sophomore, so if you're thinking of jobs for your freshman year, you'll have to find something else. There's an office at Butler dedicated to job placement, both on campus and off campus, and they'll be able to tell you all the options that are available. I promise you'll find something that will fit you perfectly, so don't stress!
We actually hold an on campus job fair (read: on campus departments and offices) during your Welcome Week/Orientation period. The Internship and Career Services office actually says there are over 900 on campus job opportunities! If you would like more information about this topic, I've listed the website below. Good luck!
