So, I have my Room and Board Contract sitting in front of me, and I was wondering if you could help me understand the difference between the meal plans offered. On the form, it only lists these choices...
-180 block meal plan per semester-240 block meal plan per semester-290 block meal plan per semester-unlimited meal plan per semester
...it doesn't really go into detail about what each of these meal plans entail -- "amount of meals," costs, flex dollars, and so forth. Hopefully someone can clear this up for me. Once I get this figured out, I'll have all my room/board forms taken care of, for the most part. I can't wait for Butler next fall! =]

I believe the cost is the same no matter which plan you choose (that's just from my memory of freshman year... correct me if I am wrong!!) and it is just the balance between meals and flex dollars which varies. The more meals you get, the less flex dollars you will have. The other thing to note is that according to the Dining Services website, the 180 block meal plan is not available to first years, which I'm guessing is your status.
Anyway, I'm surprised that it doesn't give specifics about how many flex dollars come with each plan in that contract. Maybe try poking around the website I linked to above or Student Affairs and see what you can find.
Oh, and YAY for Butler next fall : ) I'm glad you're joining us. let us know if you have other questions!

Christina-
You are right! Each meal plan costs the same amount, but varies (as mentioned) by number of meals per semester and amount of flex dollars with each plan.
That being said, any student that calls to ask me about which meal plan to choose I tell them this-meals do not roll over from semester to semester. My recommendation is to choose the lowest amount that you can as an incoming freshman student, because it also offers the most amount of flex dollars. (which, if you're like me...will spend all of that in two months at starbucks:) You can always add on meals to your plan, you can't subtract them. The dining services website does talk a little bit more about it, so be sure to check that out.
Please email me if you have questions! morourke@butler.edu hope this helps!!
