    Re: Off campus

Butler is immediately surrounded by a residential area, but there are a lot of things in Indianapolis that are only a short drive away.

Malls: there's a great mall downtown (15 minute drive, with REALLY cheap parking for the downtown of a city) and two malls up on 86th street (Butler's north end it around 52nd street, just for reference). Broad Ripple, which is an area about a 5 minute drive from campus also has stores, but they're more boutiques than your regular chain stores

Movie theaters: the downtown mall I just mentioned has a theatre, and 86th street also has a couple theaters. One of the closest theaters is probably on Michigan Street (maybe you should be pulling up a map!) and I would say it's about 10 minutes from campus.

Grocery Stores: there's a Marsh on the far side of Broad Ripple (corner of 62nd and Keystone if you got that map out) and there's a Meijer's on 38th. There's also a Kroger in the middle of Broad Ripple. Those are probably your three most popular options for BU students living on campus. I'm a Marsh fan myself :)

Pharmacies: there are a couple CVS's in the Broad Ripple area - the closest is probably about a 7 minute drive. There's a Walgreens on the same corner as the Marsh. Of course there are pharmacies all around Indianapolis, and you probably won't have a problem finding one if you need one.

Restraunts: my FAVORITE part of Indy is all the great restraunts, so I don't even know where to start with this! Broad Ripple has a lot of options. If you're looking for fast food, it has McDonalds and Qdoba, which are very popular with the Butler crowd. There are also your chain restraunts - Applebee's, Noodles & Co, and Buffalo Wild Wings - as well as some small unique places - check out the Corner Wine Bar, and there are some good Mexican places too. Downtown offers SO MANY good restraunts, and again, parking is cheap and easy to find, and it's only 15 to 20 minutes from campus! RAM Steakhouse is a personal favorite of mine, as is P.F. Chang's and Weber Grill. There's another P.F. Chang's up on 86th Street, which also has a lot of great restraunts. Keystone Mall on 86th has Cheesecake Factory, TGI Friday's and Maggiano's. There's also a McAllister's Deli on 86th Street. Basically, if there's any restraunt you like or any type of food you like, you'll be able to find it in Indy!

How do students get downtown if they don't have cars?  Are there bus stops on campus?  How is the public transportation in Indy?

    Re: Off campus

There used to be a bus stop on campus, but there isn't anymore (it wasn't Butler's decision to remove the stop, and I don't think they were very happy about it being removed, but it wasn't used enough for the IndyGo bus system to continue using the stop). Most people who don't have cars get rides from friends if they're going off campus. Most of the time you'll be going downtown as a group anyways! As for public transport in general in Indy, I've never ridden the bus, and it's not a hugely popular option for a lot of Butler students, but there are a few people who use it. I've heard there's a train in the works from the northern suburbs to downtown, but I don't know how close it will run to campus.

    Re: Off campus

Additionally, Butler's Program Board also sponsors "Out and About in Indy" which provides transportation to special events or places of interest over the weekend. Sometimes they take students skydiving other times they just run a shuttle to a particular mall back and forth all day. Also there is a Broad Ripple shuttle that stops on Campus from about 10pm to 3am on Saturdays. Don't worry there are lots of ride oppurtunites and Butler has things like the convienance store and book store on camous to help with everyday needs. You may not even have to leave!

Is there a curfew for campus when you go out on the weekdays and weekends?

and are freshman allowed to bring their cars with them to park on campus?

    Re: Off campus

There is no curfew....you're an adult and you get treated like one!

Freshmen can park cars on campus. There are parking spots for residential students surrounding all of the dorms.

    Re: Off campus

Gabbie -  -- there are no bus stops along Meridian St. between ~62nd and 38th because it's high traffic.  I found a bus stop on 46th and Pennsylvania for Route 18 (Nora).  It's 0.8 miles from campus.  There might be some on Illinois and 46th for Route 28, which would be ~0.6 miles from campus.

Here's a map to the Route 18 stop from Butler's campus: Google Map

That's great. Yeah other universities have curfews depending on the week.

I think we should get treated like adults as well.
