In the registration packet it said 2 and online it says no more than 12 credit hours.
I was planning to use Calc AB, Psych and US history (So i could save little money and take business classes during the school year and not during summer school).
Good news - there is no limit to the number of credits you can bring to Butler from AP classes! We do limit the number of transfer credits you bring in from other colleges, but that number is pretty high. Most incoming freshmen don't have to worry about it.
I am a freshman Dance and English major, and I took three AP tests in high school. Part of Butler's core curriculum is divided into five divisions.
Division 1: Humanities
Division 2: Fine Arts
Division 3: The Social World
Division 4: Natural Sciences
Division 5: Analytic Reasoning
I took the English AP--that did not count for Division 1 (since those are mostly 200 level classes), but it did count for one semester of my freshman seminar class. Another requirement is two semesters of freshman seminar.
I took the Calculus AB AP--that gave me three credits (as did the English), and it fulfilled my Division 5 requirement.
I took the US History AP--that did NOT fulfill a requirement, but it counted as six credits of a 100 level elective.
So while I'm not sure there is a limit, I took three AP tests. Your Calc AP would fulfill Division 5, and US History would be six extra credit hours, if they count them in a similar manner. I am not sure what psychology would do. I feel like it would fall under Division 3, the social world.
Good luck on all your tests, and I hope this helps!
by the way I am a pre-pharm major
These are my ap classes
Last year (all 4's)
Physics B, us history, psychology
This year
Calc AB, Stats, and Chemistry
i did get a 3 in human geo.
Have you come to Butler to register for classes yet? I'm not exactly sure if the 2 classes or12credit hours is correct, so the best person to talk to would be whoever is signing you up for classes. They deal with this all the time (you won't be the only freshman with AP credits!) an if they don't know, they can find the answer for you. I would definitely use the calculus credit if you have to pick and choose...
Well, I used three classes, but together they came to exactly twelve credit hours. So the credit hour limit might carry more weight here than the number of classes, since I went over that limit.
