Hey Butler.  I'm a sophomore.  Just signed up for a campus tour this summer first week of August.  Is that a good time to come?  I hope so because it's about the only time I can come this year.  Will anyone be around the campus then?

Greg-

There will be some students around at that time, however, it will not be as busy as it would in late August when the students move in.  The great thing is our campus is beautiful all year around so really anytime is a nice time to come.  We always have some students that stick around for summer classes and on campus jobs so you will have a chance to see some people.  No matter the time of year, Butler is a great place to be.  When you meet some of the students and staff you will quickly see that we are a very friendly group who love to work hard and have fun!

Campus will be much quieter then so you'll have to use your imagination to get a feel of the hustle and bustle that happens you'd experience as a student during the year. As a sophomore, you're WAY ahead of the game! We offer many opportunities to visit:

Junior Preview Days - the spring of your junior year and for juniors only!

Butler 101 - the summer before your junior or senior year. This one is fun because it includes a huge cookout!

Open House - the fall of your junior or senior year. We put on a ton of programming and you come and go as you please.

Plus, as you know, we offer our Explore Butler group visit every day. Then, once you apply and are admitted, the list gets much longer on things we offer admitted students (like basketball games, student shadowing, one-on-one appointments with counselors and professors, and major specific visits). Visits are all listed at http://go.butler.edu/visit if you want to register or find more information about something.

I recommend trying a couple different programs. Check us out in August and then come back before your senior year to finalize the list of schools to which you want to apply. Mix up the time of year if you can - if it's a summer visit the first time be sure to come back when school is in session for your second visit to make sure. In the meantime, send questions to your admission counselor - that's what we're here for! To find the counselor assigned to your area, check out our counselor search function at http://go.butler.edu/apps/counselorsearch/

thanks for your reply and the great fountain photos. if I wait until I'm a senior, I might not get a chance to visit.  Indiana isn't exactly on my way home every day - i live in Texas.  The campus looks nice in pictures and the school looks like it might be a really good fit for me so we're making a special trip.

Wow, cool! What part of Texas? I am headed to Dallas, actually, in a few weeks. What attracted you to Butler from so far away?

And yes, campus is very quiet... but the first time I visited Butler was during July and I fell in love with it anyway, so I think a summer visit is fine.  And I'm still here this summer! so it's not totally dead : )  Just imagine Starbucks being really crowded, student government giving away free stuff, some clubs with tables outside trying to sell t-shirts for their charity, people staking out their study spots in the library, running from meeting to meeting, (or running on the treadmills at the HRC), smiling faces everywhere and profs asking you how you're doing, and people playing frisbee or golf with tennis balls on the lawn (ok.. that one you might have the chance to actually witness during the summer!)
