Don't let your worries about standardized testing hold you back from applying. Schools will look at you as an overall person--your grades, activities, and application essays--not just how well you do on your tests. Thats awesome that you are looking at schools in the US, have you studied abroad here??

Also, good job on the math. That was my worst section haha :)

Re: Scholarships

Welcome Jessbear14!! Great questions.

Yes, it's true we love to give away money. :) 85% of our students receive some sort of financial aid. And here's some more info on the ACT scores from BUMegan:

"Our middle 50% is 24-29 on the ACT.
Keep in mind, though, that we pull the best four sub-scores on the ACT
and combine them for you to create a new composite score. Does that
make sense? If you've ever heard the term "superscore" that's also
another way to describe it. It can actually help to take the test more
than once, because your overall score MIGHT increase!

Also remember too, that Butler requires the writing score at least ONCE of all the times you've taken the test."

Here's the whole profile:

2008 Freshmen Class Profile (Middle 50%)
GPA (on a 4.0 scale): 3.42 - 4.0
SAT: writing 520-610; critical reading 520-630; math 530-650; composition 1570-1890
ACT: 24-29
48% in the top 10% of their graduating class

Re: Who wants to be friends?

Hmm I haven't, but I've heard of Mansfield! Recently a mom of a student emailed me and asked me why I chose Butler, and here is pretty much what I told her.

1. Size
Butler has all the conveniences of a large University, but has a comparatively small student population. Butler has about 4,000 undergrads. I think my largest class probably has 20-25 people in it, and one of my classes has only about 15 people in it. These classes are even smaller than the size of my high school classes, and its great because you really get to know your professors. Its not a huge lecture class where you will never be noticed or get your questions answered. At the same time there are tons of campus activities going on all the time and the athletic events are crazy fun. Its just the right size for me.
2. Location
I live in Columbus, Ohio so Butler is only about 2 and a half hours away from me. Its a good distance because its far enough away that I can be independent and make my own decisions but home isn't too far away and my parents can come down and visit me easily.
3. Majors
At first I was interested in Butler's Dance program, but then halfway through last year decided I didn't really want to major in dance and wanted to look into other areas. Butler has a great Exploratory majors program, which is what they call the undecided majors. You get to explore different majors and do job shadows and take personality tests to see which career you would enjoy most and utilize your skills in best. There are so many majors here and thus, many choices.

So those were my main points for coming to Butler. Its a well known school, and a credible education. Not to mention the job placement rate after graduation is something like 90%. Pretty awesome. Now that I'm here I've realize how many awesome campus organizations and activities they have too. The greek life here is amazing too. Actually thats what I sent her, verbatim haha. But really, it just felt like it was the place for me. And I love it! Otterbein is a great school as well. Westerville isn't too far away, and I used to go down there for conferences and such. But for me, it would be too close to home. Butler does give out some great scholarships, so keep your grades up and stay involved! Also don't forget to apply for local scholarships--they might not be much, but a little bit goes a long way! Ohio gives out some pretty decent ones too, your guidance counselor should have a list of available scholarships or you can search for ones applicable to you on college board http://apps.collegeboard.com/cbsearch_ss/welcome.jsp

I was wondering if anyone could give me some information about the dance at Butler. I have been accepted into the University but I still have to audition for the dance department. Could anyone give me any information about the size of classes, types of ballet focus (ie: Vagonova, Checketti, Balanchine), and just some general information.
