Here are two of my sorority sisters, Kristen & Lindsay, in their AMAZING golf cart/bus...basically, Kristen had some great maneuvering skills that you will see in a moment...

Another one of my sisters, Caitlin, and I were in a golf cart, and we couldn't get ours to turn on....so we had to refer to the Operating Instructions that were very nicely printed on the steering wheel...haha

Once we finally got them to work....we were off on our journey.... :)

Here...Kristen was trying to drive the massive golf cart in between the light posts....which was difficult since it seats like 12 people instead of 4, but eventually she succeeded!

Here we are again....in our little caravan....haha

And then we arrived at our destination. :)

Basically, I had a ton of fun getting the golf carts. After that, we decorated tables, tied bows onto trees, and carried things to different places! Before we knew it, our shift to help out was over, and the Bulldog Beauty Contest was getting ready to start. I couldn't stay for it because I was signed up to give tours of our house to Alpha Phi alumni, but I did take time to see my sorority sister, Mel's dog that she brought to the contest......he was adorable!!! His name is Hercules, and they made a toga and a crown of ivy and stuff for him to wear. Basically, I think that he should have won. He was feisty but still so sweet...which made me miss my dogs from home! But he was still an amazing dog, so I just had to take a photo of him....here he is... :) (and thats Mel holding him.....even though you can only see her legs....sorry Mel!!!)

So to close out my pre-homecoming festivities, I stood watch in our foyer as alumni came and went throughout our house. (Someone had to be there to let them in!!) It was awesome to get to meet the girls who lived here before us, and to get to hear the stories that they had about their days at A Phi. They all wanted to hear about what we are doing with the house now, and how things have changed.....and of course, we all wanted to know what living in the house was like 5-10 years ago! As I watched them come in to the house and yell and scream when they saw people for the first time in years, it made me actually look forward to the day when I will get to come back to the house during homecoming and get to see all of my sisters back in our house again. :) So this is my final homecoming blog, I hope you have enjoyed reading about my intense week....because I have really enjoyed getting to somewhat relive it by blogging about it!!!! Happy Homecoming!!!!!

Homecoming 2K9!!!!!

So I have decided to do my homecoming blog in three parts.....the first was about Yell Like Hell,
this one is about the parade/game, and my next one will be about what I
did before the game, and anything else that I left out. :) So on
Friday afternoon, we started coming up with ideas and such about our
float, and some genius thought that we should make a 20 ft tall robot.
Naturally, we loved that idea. Our theme was techno, so we just
carried on the theme of intensity and raving and such from our lawn
decs to the float....plus the robot of course. We used boxes that we
painted silver to make him.....and then he was suspended on the trailer
with strings and such. Basically, he was awesome! At first, I didn't
think that he would last for 10 minutes once we got in line, but he
stayed standing up for more than 3/4 of the parade....so I am pretty
proud of him. haha.....so mad props to the boys of delt and the
schwitz and phi girls who helped put together this fabulous
robot.....it looked great! Here is a photo of our trailer....with the
robot of course...

Now during the parade, the best part wasn't just the awesome robot. I
was walking/cheering/dancing alongside the float......which was SO much
fun!!! I loved it because we were just loving life and having the best time ever.....which was really exhausting! I have only worked out
once since I've been at Butler.....and I could totally tell that I'm
out of shape as I ran/danced alongside the float. But, I had tons of fun nonetheless, which is what is important. We kept doing cheers, and doing a little dance from Yell Like Hell, and singing, and handing out glow sticks, and just being awesome. :) So here is a photo of all the girls from Phi and Schwitz who were in the parade...

After the parade, it was finally time to go to the game!!! We all went and sat on the hill at the Butler Bowl, and basically just continued to love life. :) I couldn't stay for the entire game because I was going to go babysit for my cousin's kids, but I still was there for a pretty long time, and I basically had my fill of football for the year. (I'm not the biggest sports fan....) I had to leave before they announced all the winners of everything, but I was there for long enough to watch the game for a little bit and to show off my Butler spirit!!!! Here is a photo of the Butler Bowl before the game.....it was basically a happenin place..... :)

Senior Homecoming!

At 7 am on a Saturday morning, where can you find most 21 and 22 year old college students?

In bed?

Yes, usually. But not on Homecoming Saturday!

I'm not sure exactly how or when this started, but at least as long as I've been at Butler, there has been a kind of ridiculous senior Homecoming tradition: At 7 am, two of the bars in the nearby Broad Ripple neighborhood open their doors and tons of seniors crowd in there for our first class reunion of sorts.

At 11:30 pm the night before, my friends and I were still up in the air about it. Did we really want to wake up at 6 am to go to the bars by 7? 6 AM?!? But, tradition is a powerful thing, and this is the ONLY time in our lives that drinking at 7 am would be socially acceptable. There's a definite gimmick factor there.

Because the theme of Homecoming was "Rewind through Time," we decided to dress in the style of the 80s. I mean, if you're at the bars at 7 am, you already look ridiculous, so why not embrace it?

Keepin' it classy (pinkies up) with mimosas - a drink you can kind of justify in the morning because it has orange juice.

In the end, I think we were all really glad we went. It was something funny we will never forget, and it was great to see so many seniors in one place. I actually did get to talk to a lot of people I haven't seen in ages, so it was a successful morning.

We just missed getting back in time for the traditional chariot races, unfortunately, but we took a short nap (we had been up since SIX AM, people!) and then went to watch the Homecoming Parade and then the football game.

I won't lie; I don't care about football at all, whether at Butler or anywhere else, but you have to go at Homecoming for the social experience. All the students sit on blankets on the hill in the endzone, and there were tons of young alumni that graduated last year visiting! Good times.

The best part of the day, though, was definitely the announcement of the Homecoming results. I mentioned earlier this week that one of my best Butler friends, Betsy, was the Homecoming Queen candidate for Ross Hall, the mostly-freshmen residence hall where she is an RA. She and our friend Anthony, the King candidate, put on a very clever campaign, and put SO much work into getting the freshmen at Ross involved in there very first Homecoming, so I was not at all surprised but totally thrilled when Betsy was named HOMECOMING QUEEN! I was so proud and thrilled, and took a million pictures of her with her crown! haha. The best part was when we went out to dinner that night and we all made her wear the crown, and this little girl in the restaurant ran up behind her and just pointed and stared in awe. Betsy is Shirley the Queen!

So, with all these unexpected and fun adventures, my senior Homecoming was definitely my favorite so far! I still can't believe I'm so old, but at least it's a good time. Happy Homecoming, Bulldogs!

Yell Like Hell...aka...my favorite part about homecoming... :)

So last week was homecoming.....which was absolutely fabulous! :) There was some sort of event every night, and my favorite night was Thursday, when we had Yell Like Hell, the campus-wide cheerleading competition. During homecoming all of the residence halls were paired with sororities and fraternities, and Alpha Phi was paired with both Schwitzer and Delta Tau Delta. This was basically an awesome pairing, especially since so many people from Schwitz, Delt, and Phi all wanted to help out! We had tons of people to do Yell Like Hell, which just made it so much more fun!!! We would practice every night altogether, which was the perfect way to get to know girls from Schwitzer and guys from Delt, and even Alpha Phis!!!! Since it was a cheerleading routine...we did a lot of builds....and I was a flyer, which was terrifying at first because I haven't done that since I was a freshman in high school, but I had a great build group of Delts who never ever dropped me! And all of our music was pretty awesome since it was techno.... (that was our pairing's theme for all the events and such...) So I absolutely loved it!!! Here is a video.....my build group is always the one on the far right....so look out for us!!! And enjoy how awesome it all is... :)

(Please visit the site to view this media)

Another one of my favorite parts of homecoming is lawn decs....which I didn't get to help with as much as I would have liked because I had a test the day that they had to be done, but it was still really cool to help a little bit and just see how they made it all happen! Since our theme was techno, our lawn decs included a HUGE dog house that had a rave going on inside.....complete with techno music and a strobe light, a DJ booth with Blue as the DJ, and tons of really big boards with outlines of people dancing on them....like on the iPod commercials and all! Now I wish I would have taken a picture, but by the time I had a second to spare, they had started to take apart the lawn decs to make our float for the parade. Thats the sad thing, we take so long to put it all together, and then we have to take it down a day later. But the best part is definitely having everyone come together to make it happen. I love it!!! In my next blog I will talk more about homecoming....but this time, the actual day of homecoming instead of what led up to it!! So check back soon for that!

A potpourrific week

As I'm sure you may have noticed on some of the other blogs, last weekend was homecoming for Butler! I won't be redundant by going into great detail, but will highlight a few of the activities I was involved in! Homecoming is a big deal here at Butler, the festivities begin Monday and culminate in the Saturday parade and football game. Due to classes, homework, and other plans I missed out on most of the evening activities during the week, but made it to Yell Like Hell (our version of a pep session) on Thursday. Saturday there are several alumni events as well as the Bulldog Beauty Contest. As a member of BUSF I volunteered at the contest as well as an alumni tailgate lunch. The Bulldog Beauty Contest was an interesting experience and apparently the thing to do when you graduate from Butler is to buy a bulldog since there were many alumni with their pets. This was followed by the homecoming parade to Hinkle field house, the football game (which was won in the last 1.9 seconds with a field goal), and the crowning of this year's Homecoming Royalty. This year both the King and Queen were Ross Hall Resident Assistants who campaigned together.

This week has also been full of meetings, homework, and studying. I had a training session for the local Big Brothers Big Sisters and am excited to begin that in the next few weeks when I am matched with a Little. This afternoon is also the beginning of College Mentors for Kids, and at our first meeting we visit their school and meet our "buddies." For the rest of the year they will come to Butler every Wednesday. I need to start preparing for the exams that I have coming up next week before Fall Break on the 15th and 16th. This has been a busy and exciting week with several things finally happening and a whole lot to do...a short break will definitely be much deserved!

Until next time

NaNo: the steampunk space age

I was going to write a post about the Butler Catholic
Community today, it being the day after Sunday and all, but our technology is
still broken. That means I cannot embed the snazzy video I made. That means
most of you won't see it. That happened to my video about my bike, and I don't
want it to happen again. It made me sad.

However, that means I'm going to talk about...

My awesome meeting with Cathryn!

Yes. Two bloggers, face to face. I also do NaNoWriMo. I
think I mentioned it once, and Cathryn has talked about it here and at the
bottom of here.

While the rest of campus was watching the Homecoming game,
we were nestled in Starbucks discussing plot points, character names, and the
scientific causes of migraine headaches. Three words: steampunk space age.

I was not going to participate in NaNoWriMo this year, since
I've found myself so busy, but if a junior pharmacy major (and thus one in her
first year of pharmacy school who is experiencing the joy of her first year of
clusters) can try to do it, so can I!

Here's a lovely picture of the two of us outside Starbucks
with our magical pens of magical writing magic power. Except we both were
typing on our Macs. And the picture is blurry because my battery died mere
moments later, so there was no time to try again.

Well it's all over so unfortunately I have to get back into my scholastic frame of mind... sigh! Well Home Coming couldn't have come at a better time for me this year putting an end to the monotony of 4 exams back to back. Now as I sit writing this blog I'm thinking 'Oh dear I have a bio-computing exam on Monday and I haven't started studying for it yet ' Thats ok cause I don't regret one minute of this weekend. This realization helped me discover my very own mantra

A Week end of HomeComing Is A Week end Well Spent

Homecoming's Eve

It's probably one of the biggest mysteries a year (besides your costume for Voodoo) it's what going to happen the night before homecoming. Some times we find gems in the rough but sometimes we also find fools gold. Sometimes we find that some of our friends have been holding out on us with their extremely unforeseeable talents. What would you do if you found out that a friend of yours was secretly a rapper in disguise? That she spit such hot fire it made you take a second look to examine the situation. All of this did happen, it went down at butler university on Homecoming's Eve.

We were just, you know having fun in my room when one of my friends decided to take a stand, be the best that she could be and pick up the mic in one FAIL swoop. I obliged her even provided a track for her to rap on. Thank God I did because this clip I'm about to show made my week end... ladies and gentle men K-Roll in the building lmao

That's what I love about home coming it brings out the best in everyone haha.

So I started out my day with Accounting at 9:35. This isn't normally a crazy early class, but yesterday it sure felt like it, because I was up until 4 the night before studying for the test I had that morning! It was my last test of the week (thank goodness), and the end of that class at 11 a.m. couldn't have come any sooner! I didn't really take names or anything, but I did the best that I could considering that it is Homecoming week, and I have already had 2 tests and a paper this week. So once I was done in Accounting, I went back to the house to get some things done and to eat lunch. I had been telling myself all week that I would let myself watch last week's The Office as a reward for making it through all of my tests, but that didn't happen. :( So I have to make up for missing out on that reward for myself later. Then at 1, I went to my Global and Historical Studies class. GHS is an interesting class because it is set up very differently than all of my other classes. We meet with our normal class on Tuesdays, and on Thursdays we meet with 2 other sections in one of the big lecture halls in the Pharmacy Building. It is also kind of different because everyone has to take 2 GHS classes unless you study abroad, and there are all different topics. So for example, I am in South Asian Civilizations, and both of my roommates are in Women: Rights & Resistance. So as you can tell, there are a really wide range of topics! But probably my favorite part of this class is the room we meet in for our plenary sessions on Thursdays, in the Pharmacy Building. It is brand new, and pretty intense....I love all of the chairs, they are the really nice chairs with rollers on the bottom that are comfortable but not too much so that you don't fall asleep as soon as you sit down. :)

So after GHS, I have Real Business Experience, which is the class that all sophomore business students take. In it we form teams and we get to come up with a business idea, and eventually we actually start it here on campus. Right now we have formed the teams, and we are working on our idea....and getting ready for all of the presentations that we have to make for it! I'll write more about RBE sometime, because it is a pretty intense class! (Until then, if you want more information, check out the COB website, or this page about RBE!) On Tuesdays after that I have a little break until around 8, and then I start in on my meetings, because three of my clubs have meetings on Tuesday nights, but luckily they all alternate weeks! On Thursdays, when I am done with RBE, I work at Speaker's Lab, and when I finish that around 7, then I am usually done for the night (not including watching The Office or Grey's Anatomy of course.) Yesterday I also had Yell Like Hell....which was basically AMAZING....and I will write about it later!!! So look forward to next week when I tell you all about Homecoming at Butler....it is basically the best time of the year! Happy Homecoming everyone!!!

My Day, A Play-by-Play

6:45 AM: Cell phone alarm goes off. Press snooze.

6:54 AM: Cell phone alarm goes off. Reset for 7:15 AM.

7:20 AM: I'm out of bed. Time for a shower. No breakfast yet because I'm going to my Patient Program appointment, scheduled for 8:00 AM. The patient? Me.

7:45 AM: iPod headphones in. Descend stairs, exit the apartment. Good gracious it's cold! I can see my breath!

7:57 AM: Arrive at pharmacy building for my appointment. Get my fingers pricked for blood tests, then I get my BMI checked. Awesome, don't have to look at the results until Tuesday! I can continue to live in the fantasy world where I am perfectly healthy.

8:30 AM: Back in bed. What? I don't have class until 10!

9:30 AM: Drag myself back to the waking world, eat some pop tarts, and it's back to the pharmacy building for biochemistry. It's really great. The Kreb's cycle in detail, all eight steps in all of their glory. For 50 minutes. I checked Facebook twice, sorry.

11:00 AM: Starbucks with Lindsey! The PAWS Over-it campaign table is there. I guess I could have volunteered for an hour. SHSSH! I make Lindsey get a free Over-It t-shirt. (Over-It is a campaign PAWS is co-sponsoring that bashes high-risk drinking! If you got a shirt wear it tomorrow!!)

12:00 PM: PharmCare with Dr. O. She's a goofy lady, I love her. We learned about communication! Woo! She also made a great setup for a joke, something like: "So a well-rested and healthy man walks into a pharmacy..." Get it? That never happens.

1:00 PM: Checked my mail, got back to the apartment, shared a popsicle with Natalie, then made a bagel. I didn't do a very good job at eating meals today. Time for the Internet!

2:00 PM: Still on the Internet! I have the flashcard site open for my 50 drugs quiz tomorrow!

And it's now 5 PM and I probably know 20 out of the 50 drugs. I have lots to do tonight, haha! Well, I have a huge to-do list for this weekend, as it will be the first relaxing time I can have without big obligations in the way. The living room could use the two end tables I got for it (they've been sitting in my trunk since Sunday, ugh I'm lazy!), and my room needs to be cleaned. I don't have to remind you of the desk photo I had earlier. Yeah, it still looks like that, minus the food. I'm not THAT much of a slob. ;)

It's also Homecoming! There are lots of fun activities going on! I'm just sort of a party pooper and I don't go to them. I think that's going to get me fired. Uhh--SCHOOL SPIRIT!! But seriously, there are tons of things to do. Like watch the different residence halls do Yell Like Hell tonight, and then the parade and game on Saturday. Unfortunately, I will be working. Homecoming just did not work out for me this year.

Did anyone get tacos at Midnight Snack last night? If so, I'm jealous. :(

After taking about 100 creepy pictures of myself wearing the shirt, I opted for the "argh just throw it on a surface and take a picture!"

WHAT?! How'd that action figure get there?!

Anyway, the Over-It t-shirts! Look for people wearing them tomorrow! I think PAWS is going to feature Over-It again at our monthly table at Starbucks on Tuesday. :) Please stop by!
