WISH TV at No Doubt

My housemate Meg is an intern at WISH TV, and at the concert we ran into Scott, who hosts a music show for the station. He remembered Meg from when they worked together at the 500 Festival! That was our closest celebrity encounter for the night.

Family night at Pi Phi

One fun part of the new member process is finding out who your Big Sis is! This is an older member of the chapter who serves as a mentor for one of our new Pi Phis. We "reveal" the sister pairings at a fun night full of songs, games, and sugar! An old Pi Phi tradition is the cookieshine where we pass around a huge cookie, and everyone takes a piece and makes a wish while the rest of us sing Pi Phi songs. It's very cute and a fun way to welcome the new members to the families. All the beautiful ladies in blue are from my family - the Mooses!

FREE breakfast at Denny's

Back in February, Denny's offered free Grand Slam breakfasts to anyone who came in after 6 am. We got there at 6:15 and the line was already out the door... and the place was packed with BU students! Here we are devouring every college student's favorite: free food!

In many ways, being a study abroad student living with a host family was like being in first grade again. We went on field trips almost every week, and for those days our mamas would pack us lunches with sandwiches and juice boxes, which we would of course compare to see who got the best ones.

When we went to the Alcazar in Segovia, which is supposedly one of the castles which inspired Disney, we climbed up to the top of the tower (the stairs were brutal!) and then sat down and had a picnic lunch on top of the castle. You know, just a regular day in Spain.

Friends from around the world

One of my favorite parts of being in Europe was all the random people I met from around the globe. I would talk to people I met on buses, trains, in lines... just about everywhere. I met new friends from Australia, London, South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Korea, Egypt, Japan - to name a few. The guy in this picture is Jose, a college student from Guatemala that we met on our bus to Oviedo. I talked to him for like three hours about the political situation and corruption in his country and the non-profit he started for local children.

So, my best advice, for travel (and at home): TALK TO STRANGERS! They are the coolest people you will ever meet.

My Spanish Butler family

This is our class of Butler students in Spain. The seventeen of us were together from September 1st to December 19th, and we chose to spend a LOT of that time together. We took classes together, went out together, traveled together, studied together. We would walk each other home at night, take care of each other when we were sick, lend each other money when the Spanish ATMs didn't like us, etc. We have all seen each other through so much, and even though some of us had never met before this semester, I know we will still be friends when we get home. Right now it's winter break and just about every day I get a mass email from one of them that says "Dear family, I miss you so much! When are we having our first reunion?"

I'm so glad I met all these people. I love you guys!

Butler party in Spain

There are seventeen of us from Butler here in Spain, and once a month our professor, Dr. Willem, invites us over to her apartment for a BU reunion. She even had traditional Spanish party cakes for all of us... we ate soooo much! We also took time to catch up and share some stories from all of our adventures in Spain and around Europe. One group went to Morocco for a long weekend, and their stories were hilarious.
