Office of Student Disability Services

Congratulations and welcome! We are delighted that you have decided to join us at Butler University.

I would like to inform you about the Office of Student Disability Services. This office is a coordination site for support services for qualified students with documented disabilities. The office is located in Jordan Hall 136. We are available to help ensure an equitable educational experience for all Butler students.

If you anticipate that you will need these services during your academic career, please schedule an appointment with Student Disability Services prior to registering for classes by calling (317) 940-9457 (V/TTY). During this appointment, it is beneficial for you to bring a copy of the written documentation regarding your disability. In that way, your individual circumstances can be reviewed as a plan of assistance is being considered. If you feel you will need accommodations in order to participate equitably in the activities scheduled for Early Registration, please notify Student Disability Services at least one week prior to the event.

If you feel you will require accommodations in order to equitably complete the online placement testing (English, mathematics, and if applicable, foreign language, chemistry and speech), please notify Student Disability Services as soon as possible. Placement exams become available thirty days before your Early Registration date and close the Friday prior to your date. Documentation of your disability must be received by the Office of Student Disability Services at least one week prior to the date you wish to take the online placement tests. Therefore, documentation for the purpose of requesting accommodations for online placement exams must be received by Student Disability Services by the Friday two weeks prior to your Early Registration date. This will allow ample time to make any necessary arrangements. Otherwise, it cannot be guaranteed that the accommodation can be delivered on a timely basis.

Placement test results are used to establish the appropriate level of coursework in which to enroll the student. Decisions regarding placement are very carefully determined and are made in the student’s best academic interest. If special testing conditions are required, placement decisions may not be finalized until one week after Early Registration. In this circumstance, the student will be notified in writing as to the placement decision.

If you have questions or need additional information, please call at (317) 940-9457 or stop by the office in Jordan Hall 136. You can also email matterso@butler.edu with any questions. Butler looks forward to working with you as you pursue your academic goals.

Sincerely,

Michele Atterson
