Application Deadlines for First-year Undergraduates
Butler offers three non-binding admission programs for fall (August) admission. To be considered for certain programs and scholarships, you must follows the established timelines and important dates, which are noted in detail below. Students applying for Early Action should present a strong record of academic achievement and plan to take the SAT or the ACT no later than October/November. Apply online at http://go.butler.edu/apply. We accept both the Butler application and the Common Application.
Early Action I
If Butler is one of your top choices for college, congratulations! You should apply for Early Action I. Then after you’re admitted, you can relax while watching your friends continue to complete college applications.
Early Action I is required for pre-pharmacy program applicants.
November 15 Postmark deadline for application and all required materials
Admission decisions mailed by December 17
January 31 (or earlier) Submit your Enrollment Form and refundable $300 admission/housing deposit
March – April Early Registration (you will be notified by the Office of Admission of your specific date for Early Registration beginning in March)
Early Action I Benefits
Other benefits (besides peace of mind) include:
Freshman Academic Scholarships All Early Action I and Early Action II applicants are considered for Butler University’s largest general scholarship program, regardless of financial aid eligibility. Award amounts ranged between $5,000 and $15,000 for fall 2009.
Jordan College of Fine Arts (JCFA) Talent Award These talent awards are offered based on the results of an admitted student's audition, interview or video, as required by their intended major. You’re encouraged to schedule your audition early.
Early Registration Special registration days in March and April allow admitted students priority selection of courses and instructors. Classes fill on a first-come basis, so the earlier you apply and enroll, the more likely you are to get the classes you want at the times you want.
Freshman Living-Learning Centers These unique living-learning centers provide freshmen special program opportunities for academics and extracurricular activities. They are reserved for Early Action applicants and even then space is limited.
Honors Program Eligible candidates will receive an invitation to the Honors Program after being admitted to Butler.
Housing List your residence hall, floor and roommate preference on your housing contract, which you’ll receive in the mail. Requests are filled on a first-come basis.
Early Action II
If you’ve decided after November 15 to apply to Butler, here are the dates you’ll need to know:
January 15 (or before) Postmark deadline for application and all required materials
Admission decisions mailed by February 1
February 28 (or earlier) Submit your Enrollment Form and refundable $300 admission/housing deposit
April - May Early Registration (you will be notified by the Office of Admission of your specific date for Early Registration beginning in April)
Early Action II applicants are eligible for Freshman Academic Scholarship and Honors Program consideration.
Regular Decision
If you decide after February 1 to apply to Butler, here are the dates you’ll need to know:
February 15 (or before) Postmark deadline for application and all required materials
Admission decisions mailed by March 6
May 1 (or earlier) Submit your Enrollment Form and $300 admission/housing deposit
May and June New Student Registration (you will be notified by the Office of Admission of your specific date for registration beginning in May)
After February 15 applications will be accepted on a space-available basis.

Your enrollment form and $300 admission deposit must be postmarked by May 1 to guarantee your place in the freshman class. Butler University adheres to the National Candidate's Reply Date of May 1. All deposits paid prior to this date are refundable until May 1 upon written request. Deposits paid after May 1 are non-refundable.
