Travel to Indianapolis
Depending on where you are coming from and your time frame for travel, there are many different forms of transportation you can take to arrive safe and sound at Butler. Keep in mind that we are expecting you on certain days for your orientation, registration and a host of other important tasks and events that you must take part in. More often than not, it will take many hours of travel to arrive at Butler, and you will be tired when you get here. Therefore, you should plan ahead and leave yourself enough time to arrive comfortably on or ahead of schedule.
Air Travel
Butler University is located about 15 miles--about a 25 minute drive--from Indianapolis International Airport. The three letter airport code for the Indianapolis airport is IND. The Airport is served by 18 airlines by direct and connecting service. Most international flights will arrive at major airports such as New York JFK, Newark, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami and others, and then connect to Indianapolis from those cities. Once you arrive, you can take a taxi to campus which will cost around $25-40. Butler also offers an airport pickup service, but you must inform us by filling out an Airport Arrival Information form.
Bus
Greyhound Lines is one of the largest bus lines in the United States. Bus travel can be relatively inexpensive, but also takes longer to arrive at your destination: remember how large the U.S. is geographically. The Greyhound station in Indianapolis is located downtown, about 6 miles or 10 kilometers from Butler University:

Train
Amtrak is the main train transportation company in the U.S. Train travel in the U.S. is generally considered not as efficient and convenient a means of travel as it is in many parts of the world, though the train systems on the east coast are more heavily used. Indianapolis' Amtrak station is also located downtown at the same location as the bus station:

Temporary Housing and Hotel Accommodations
Butler is unable to provide adequate temporary housing accommodations. Therefore, if you are visiting campus or arrive in Indianapolis prior to new student orientation, and/or you will be accompanied by other travelers, we have provided a list of recommended hotels that are located in the Indianapolis City Centre, which is within approximately 15 minutes driving distance of the Butler University campus, and is accessible via taxi or rental car. Some hotels provide reduced rates for visitors to Butler University.
