  • Club Sports—You can pursue your interests and passions with club or intramural sports – nearly half of our students do. You can participate in anything from Dawg Hockey to Shotokan Karate, with lots more in between.
  • Diversity Organizations—The Office of Diversity Programs coordinates academic, career, cultural and leadership development programs and social activities to promote Butler’s commitment to racial and ethnic diversity. A sampling of on-campus organizations includes Butler Alliance, ASIA (Asian Student Organization), Black Student Union, International Club, REACH (Respecting Embracing and Achieving Community Harmony), Hillel, and the Latino Awareness Student Association (LASO).
  • General and Special Interest Organizations—From campus-wide publications such as The Collegian student newspaper and The Drift yearbook to the Butler University Student Foundation (BUSF) and Colleges Against Cancer, there are numerous causes and efforts that could use your participation.
  • Greek Life—Nearly 35% of Butler students choose to join the Greek community for camaraderie, social activities and philanthropy opportunities. Of the 16 fraternities and sororities on campus, 13 offer housing beginning sophomore year.
  • Performing Arts Organizations—Numerous opportunities are available for students to participate in and/or attend productions by the Jordan College of Fine Arts including faculty and student recitals, vocal and instrumental ensembles (Men’s Glee Club, the University Choir and Chorale, as well as a half dozen more), Butler University Theatre and Theatre Department productions.
  • Political Organizations—Both the Young Democrats and College Republicans are active on campus. Butler’s Amnesty International chapter supports worldwide human rights.
  • Religious and Spiritual Groups—Deepen your faith and nurture your spirit with organizations such as Campus Crusade for Christ and Young Life as well as through our unique Center for Faith and Vocation. Other opportunities include Butler Hillel, the Butler Catholic Community, Lutheran/Episcopal and United Methodist Outreach worship services and activities.
  • Residence Hall Organizations—Opportunities to meet new friends, influence policy development and increase your leadership skills are available. The halls are more than just a place to sleep and study.
  • Service Organizations—Giving back to the community is an important aspect of student life at Butler, and we have nearly every letter of the alphabet represented in the names of our numerous service organizations. Examples include: Alpha Phi Omega (a national co-ed service fraternity), Bulldogs Being Bigs (sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana), BU Lions Club, College Mentors for Kids, Hampton House Program for Servant Leadership, and the YMCA. If you’re ready to make a difference, you can make it here.
  • Student Government—The official student governing body, the Student Government Association (SGA) is composed of elected student representatives. Here’s your chance to really hone your leadership skills and valuable experience as you promote the welfare and best interests of the student body.
